We need 6 pointsExtremely important weekend for the 56ers men' team this coming weekend. Playing at home against Aris Eau Claire and Minnesota Twin Stars in must win games for us. Come support our team as we must keep close to a surprising Quad City Eagles team that is 6 for 6. Then, the following weekend @ Breese Stevens is going to be the big showdown between 56ers and the Eagles. But first, we have to win both games this week to stay in the hunt for the Midwest Central Conference Title
Minnesota Twin Stars - 56ers: 0-5 And we are back on track
It was a must win game for the 56ers in the second game on the road this weekend. Everyone in our team understood this and gave Minnesota no chance on Sunday. It was a match under our control from the first to the last minute. The final score says it all: 5-0 us, after leading by two at half time. The goals were scored by Carlos McCrary, Jed Hohlbein, Matt Balshaw, Jade Johnson and Jack Keeling. We now have to get 6 points next weekend with home games against Aris Eau Claire on Friday and Minnesota Twin Stars on Saturday, so we can close the gap on Quad City Eagles before the June 15th game against them in Madison.
56ers - Blau Weiss Wiehre Freiburg: 3-1
A great night for soccer in Madison with the 56ers and Blau-Weiss playing the first international exhibition in Madison in 6 years. We would like to say a big "Thank You" to the Freiburg delegation: President Bernhard Bucher, coaches Jan Lindemann and Marcu Ehret and all of their players. The game was controlled by our team, we created numerous chances in the first half, but a huge defensive mistake presented Blau-Weiss with a great scoring opportunity and striker Dominik Butzbach opened the score with a great shot. Carlos McCrary equalized just before half-time. Our pressure continued in the second half and goals by Jed Hohlbein and Claudiu Aionesei sealed a 3-1 win for us.

The German team accepted our invitation to participate in a 12 days tour in the Midwest. This collaboration is taking place through the Madison-Freiburg sister city program, and we would like to say Thank You to the German community in the Madison area and especially to Mike von Schneidemesser for making it possible. It will be an important soccer celebration in Madison, an international event for the whole local soccer community that we want to dedicate to the memory of Charles Billings. Great 3-0 win in our first home game
The Madison 56ers earned its 3rd straight win on Sunday with a 3-0 defeat of Quad City Eagles. We are now at 3 wins out of 3 games to begin the 2012 season in great style. The first half was fairly even until Stacy Terry converted a penalty kick in the 35th minute. For the last 10 minutes in the first half and the first 30 minutes in the second half we completely dominated the game and created many great scoring chances, while our opponents were defending this whole time. The inevitable happened in the 66th minute when Anthony Santaga scored our second goal, while Jack Keeling added a 3rd only 11 minutes later. At that point we had the game at our discretion, while Quad City Eagles pressed forward for the last 10 minutes of the game, creating a couple chances brilliantly saved by our GK: Ryan Onwukwe. The win puts the 56ers in first place of our division with 9 points going into the next weekend with 2 home games: Saturday, June 2nd against Aris Eau Claire at 7pm, and Sunday June 3, 4pm against Minnesota Twin Stars.
Second Road Win of 2012 Season
The Madison 56ers earned a second straight road win over Aris Eau Claire on Saturday with a score of 3-2. The game was initially delayed because of lightning but the 56ers started strong with a goal off a deflected free kick from Derek Pitts. Eau Claire later equalized, however the match was again delayed due to lightning in the first half. Stacy Terry put the 56ers back on top with a goal just seconds after play was resumed. Eau Claire played well to pull even in the second half, but the 56ers were not to be denied the win as Carl Schneider scored the winner with the last kick of the game. The win puts the 56ers in first place of their division going into the first home game of the season on Sunday, May 27th against Quad City Eagles at 5pm.

Anthony Santaga scored the lone goal in the 30th minute and it proved to be enough as the 56ers earned a road victory over the team who finished in 2nd place last season. Ryan Onwukwe played very well in goal to earn the clean sheet. The 56ers had more scoring opportunities including a header from Santaga that was well saved by the Quad Cities goalkeeper and a long range effort from Stacy Terry that hit the crossbar. The Quad City Eagles were reduced to ten men after receiving a red card for a dangerous challenge on Onwukwe with roughly ten minutes left in the match.
