56ers: 2nd half of the season: we need to win 6 of 6. And we will fight for it!
Half way through the season we find ourselves in a very tough place: needing to win 6 out of 6 to make sure we reach our season's goal: the Playoffs. We are surely not where we were hoping for a few weeks ago and now we have to treat every single game as a Final. Having missed many players through injuries or other reasons didn't help: Ronnekleiv-Kelly, Santaga, Hohlbein, Brown, Ruhland, Pitts, O'Connor were out of action for a number of games. But this is not the time to look for excuses: we are ready for the challenge and we will treat every game as a Final and fight for every win for 90 minutes. And then start over!
56ers - Quad City Eagles: 0-0
We forced the Eagles to drop their first points of the season, but we were hoping for more. We were the better team in the first half and had more scoring chances. After a 90 minute delay due to lightning, the second half saw the Eagles create more. The end of the game was ours again; McCrary hit the crossbar with a great shot, and then scored a perfectly good goal with 4 minutes to go, only to see it disallowed for an imaginary offside saw only by the assistant referee! We would like to say Thank You to the U-11 56ers and Madison FC teams for playing a truly entertaining game at half-time, ended in a 2-2 tie. Everyone loved that game and we will continue to support youth soccer throughout the season. Come watch tomorrow's local soccer stars!
